Living2024 Conference Coordinator based in Europe

GNP+ is seeking a consultant based in Europe to work closely with us to coordinate the Living2024 Conference on behalf of the Living2024 Conference partners.

The Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+), The International Community of Women Living with HIV (ICW), The Global Network of Young People Living with HIV (Y+ Global), The HIV Justice Network (HJN), AIDS Action Europe (AAE), The European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG), Prevention Access Campaign (PAC), and The AfroCAB are coming together to host the Living2024 Conference from 20th - 21st July 2024 as a Pre-Conference at the AIDS2024 Conference in Munich, Germany.

The consultant will work closely with the Living2024 partners to deliver on this mandate and contribute towards organisational efforts for strengthening the capacity of communities and CSO’s at global, regional, and country level to meaningfully engage in the AIDS2024 Conference and activities leading up to it.

Background
The foundation of the Global AIDS Movement lies in community mobilisation and organising that has Since 1983, brought together people living with and affected by HIV from around the world to advocate for an end to AIDS-related stigma and deaths. Using the power of community-led research and evidence-based advocacy we improve outcomes for people living with HIV and continue to shape the agenda of the HIV response; influencing research, policy, financing, and global solidarity whose results is an infrastructure that supports even the ‘hard to reach’ communities to access HIV prevention and treatment they need to live high quality, healthy lives.

Our movement enshrines the Denver Principles developed 40 years ago, asserting the rights and self-determination of people living with HIV. Likewise, the Greater Involvement of People with HIV (GIPA) principle promotes the meaningful participation of people living with HIV in decision-making, not as service recipients or patients, but as equal partners in contributing to the global AIDS response goals. We strongly believe in “nothing for us without us.” The global movement of people living with HIV has played a critical part in every step of progress made over 40 years of the HIV epidemic. We have successfully pushed for meaningful engagement of people living with HIV and for community voices to be heard at all levels and in all aspects of the HIV response. The UNAIDS World AIDS Day report highlights the important need to ‘LET COMMUNITIES LEAD’

The pathway to ending AIDS as a public health threat is clear. However, HIV-related interventions will still be required to sustain and safeguard the gains made so far and ensure quality of life for people living with HIV. Six years to the end of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) and one year before the 2025 target set in the current Global AIDS Strategy, In the absence of an HIV vaccine and AIDS cure, planning for a sustained equitable HIV response beyond 2030 is important and community leadership critical.

The Living2024 Conference is therefore an opportunity to learn about the benefits of HIV science, treatment literacy, and diagnostic opportunities. It is also an opportunity to reflect and organise to counter the anti-rights agenda and address social barriers faced by people living with HIV that continue to limit the civic space needed for our advocacy, as well as the inequalities that fuel stigma, discrimination, and criminalisation.

About us
We are the Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+), a network for people living with HIV, run by people living with HIV. We engage with and support national and regional networks of people living with HIV, and this ensures that our global work is grounded in their local experiences and priorities. The meaningful involvement of people living with HIV is at the heart of all that we do.

We work with communities that are both geographic and identity-based. We are not a membership organization; we are a network of interconnected individuals and organizations that is open to all.

We build broad partnerships with individuals, organizations and institutions to increase our influence. Using the power of evidence-based advocacy, we challenge governments and global leaders to improve access to quality HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services.

Our Vision:
A world where all people living with HIV are free from stigma and discrimination to have our rights recognized, our dignity respected and have universal access to treatment and care.

Our Mission:
To improve the quality of life for people living with HIV, in all our diversity.

How We Began:
People Living with HIV came tighter for their first conference in 1986. Since then, regular conferences have taken place, giving our community an opportunity to share information and develop ideas for joint activism. Over time, our discussions led to the development of programmes to tackle the HIV epidemic. By 1992, it was clear that we needed an organisation to take on this programme work, and GNP+ was born. Today, GNP+ has staff based in offices in Amsterdam and Cape Town, plus a few in other parts of the world, all working together with a network of partners, allies and supporters to deliver global advocacy programmes.
